Helen Marie Scoggin

A strong, beautiful woman who taught her daughters to hold God as first in their lives, Helen welcomed family, friends, and strangers to trust in Him when life got hard and to praise Him with all our hearts through the valleys as well as the mountain tops. God’s always got a plan,” Momma would remind anyone who asked the question to God, “Why?” She taught us what it means to find happiness in the little things, what love really means, and how important it is to work hard. As a grandmother and great grandmother, Granny always demanded over-the-top birthday parties, Halloween dress-ups, and Christmas celebrations. She felt that her babies deserved so much more than she had growing up. Sitting up late in the night, Granny listened to any that needed her, comforting broken hearts, watching movies, and sharing crackers with pineapple cream cheese. What her daughters will miss most: Angie- Those special Tuesdays watching movies; Susan- sitting with her and her holding my hand while talking about everything; Paula- talking/ singing with her while driving; and Kathy- sharing a cup of coffee as she talked about God and their future when this time on earth is over, picking up new “jobs” with Him in His promised home. One of the eight children born to Homer Preston Bowlin and Dorothy Lee Rice Bowlin, Helen was born in Grayson, Louisiana on June 5, 1943. As a youngster, Helen helped her momma babysit, pick cotton, and read God’s word to her little brothers and sisters. For most of those who knew her as an adult, she worked in sales, as well as owning her own business. Family memories: Kneeling with her beside her bed to say our prayers; rolling each other’s hair in curlers’ playing with the new “Magic Tea Set” with her and Daddy. Those preceded in death include; husband, Charles Junior Scoggin; brothers, Ray Bowlin, Johnny Bowlin, Riley Hinds (R.H.) Bowlin, and David Bowlin; sisters; Janice Bowlin and Diane Bowlin Worsham. Survivors include: a brother, Homer Bowlin, Jr. (Junior) of Mooreland, Oklahoma; daughters, Kathryn Kinford, Paula Kinford, Susan Jones, and Angela Scoggin (counted also as a granddaughter) son-in-law, Brian Jones and several grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. I Corinthians 15:3 NLT
