It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Abelardo "Abel" Badillo, who left us on November 4, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on February 5, 1942, to Cruz and Francisca Badillo, Abelardo spent his early years working the fields in Hereford, Texas, where he learned the value of hard work and dedication.
As an adult, he settled in Vega, Texas, where he made his mark as a truck driver for the CO-OP, navigating the open roads with skill and determination. After his children grew up and flew the nest, Abel moved to Amarillo and continued his career with Childers Brothers, working as a leveler and earning respect from all his colleagues for his unwavering work ethic.
Beyond his work, Abel was known for his passion for life. He was a talented pool player who could often be found at the local pool hall, chalking up his cue with a smile. A true Texas sports fan, he was an avid supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, showing his colors proudly and enjoying every game with family and friends.
Above all, Abel cherished his family. He was a devoted father and grandfather, checking in weekly on his loved ones, always ready with a story or a joke to brighten their day. His warm spirit and genuine kindness touched the lives of all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Diana Badillo of Vega, TX; 3 sons, Richard Badillo of Tulsa, OK, Eddie Badillo and wife Robin of Amarillo and Frank Badillo and wife Marla of Amarillo; 3 sisters, Dora Guerrero of Hereford, TX, Patsy Uballe and husband Robert of Lorenzo, TX and Anna Badillo of Hereford, TX; 3 brothers, Lupe Badillo, Juan Badillo and wife Rosemary and Mario Badillo and wife Nancy, all of Hereford, TX; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews left to cherish his memory.
Abel was preceded in death by his parents, Cruz and Francisca Badillo; son, Tony Badillo; brother, Ben Badillo and sister, Maria Badillo.
