It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Abelino Frank Lopez, age 70, on January 21, 2026. Born on March 24, 1955, Abelino was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many during his time on earth.
Abelino is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Lopez, whom he married in 2008. He is also survived by his daughter, Felisa Ballin of Amarillo, and his sons, Matthew Lopez and wife Veronica of Moore, Oklahoma, Shane Kilman and wife Christy of Amarillo, and Gino Ballin of Amarillo, sister, Vickie Vinson. Abelino cherished his role as a grandfather to Aaron Lopez, Julia Lopez, Hannah Lopez, Lucas Lopez, Grace Lopez, and Payton Ballin, who will carry his memory forward.
He was preceded in death by his parents Domingo and Julia Lopez, cherished daughter, Jessica Ballin, his infant son, Joshua Lopez, his sister, Cecilia Ornales, and his brothers, Antonio Lopez and Tony Herandez.
A graduate of Caprock High School, Abelino dedicated over 20 years of service to Atmos Energy as a lineman foreman. He was known for his tenacity and work ethic, earning a reputation as a "hard ass" in his profession. He was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, remaining loyal to the team through both victories and defeats. Abelino found joy in fishing and treasured time spent with his family and friends.
Celebration of life services for Abelino Lopez will be held on Tuesday January 27, 2026 at 2:00PM, at Shafer Mortuary Services Funeral Home 1502 S. Cleveland St. Amarillo, TX 79102.
The family invites all who knew and loved Abelino to join in celebrating his life and legacy. His unwavering spirit and dedication to his family will forever be remembered in the hearts of those he touched.
