On August 15th, 2026, at 4:02 pm, Annelle Jean Pennington with her endearing husband by her side, graduated from this life into eternal glory with our Lord and Savior. At 79 years of age, she lived her life focused on heavenly attributes of love, faithfulness, simplicity, and contentment and devoted her heart to her husband Arthur and twin sons: Shea and Shane. Annelle, commonly known as Bert to so many, treasured her time with her grandchildren and always had a knack for making delicious meals and treats with the simplest of ingredients.

Annelle was born on April 10, 1947, in Dalhart, Tx to Mary Ann and Virgil Taylor. With two brothers, Virgil and Richard and one sister, Tanya, they spent their childhood enjoying the country life around Lake Meredith on the Armstrong ranch. They especially enjoyed riding horses and competing in rodeos. When Annelle was a freshman in high school, they moved to Stinnett, Tx where she excelled in playing softball, participating in beauty pageants, and was named rodeo queen in 1966.

After high school, she decided higher education was not her cup of tea and began working at a western wear store in Borger. As fate would have it, a dark, tall, and handsome cowboy was always needing a new pair of jeans. Annelle’s witty charm and beauty was not something he could live without and on February 5th, 1968, she married Arthur Pennington. They began their life together on the 6666’s ranch. That lifestyle demanded grit, ingenuity, perseverance, and stubbornness along with a deep love and respect for the land and for God: all which Art and Annelle Pennington exemplified. On August 24, 1969, after 48 hours of labor, Shea and Shane were born in Borger Tx, becoming the first set of twins at that hospital. While raising their boys, Annelle worked at various jobs including Planned Parenthood and then began cooking and feeding cowboys at the bunkhouses. As time passed and Art worked different ranch jobs, her reputation as a renowned cook spread like Texas wildfire and all the cowboy crew envied a spot at her dinner table. In 1980, the Pennington family moved to the Mendota Ranch in Canadian, Tx becoming loved residents of the community. Art and Bert lived their lives whole heartedly devoted to each other and their family and centered it around God, His everlasting love, and his commandments: A true testimony of their faith, steadfastness, and unending love for Jesus.

Whether it was at the Deli at Best Way, The Cat’s Paw, or the Cattle Exchange, Annelle always gifted people with not only with her delicious food but with unique nicknames that stuck. She also served with a smile, a sharp sense of humor, and loved those who were less fortunate. The light of her life were her grandchildren, and she was often caught singing them songs such as “Deep In The Heart of Texas” and “Jesus Loves Me” reading them riddles and rhymes and sneaking them Dr. Peppers and Little Debbies. Her heart belonged to the three men in her life and though they never had fancy things or lavish homes, they were deeply loved, cared for, and fiercely protected.

Annelle is survived by Arthur Pennington, Shea Pennington and his wife, Kasi, and Shane Pennington and his wife, Tatum all of Canadian, Tx. Her grandchildren Saige Hamby and her husband Jacob of Canadian, Tx, Brooke Wiley of Tulsa, Ok, Avery Pennington of Amarillo, Tx, Rhett Pennigton of Lubbock, Tx and Tinley, Riggs, Talan and Tyce Pennington of Canadian, Tx along with two great grandchildren: Mazie Kay and Josie Beth Hamby. Her siblings Richard and LuAnn Taylor of Amarillo, Tx and Tanya Coberly of Sedan, New Mexico.

She is preceded in death by her mother Mary Ann Taylor of Dalhart, Tx, her father Virgil Taylor of Dalhart, Tx. And her brother Virgil Jr Taylor of Clayton, New Mexico.

Annelle Pennington’s memorial service will be at First Baptist Church of Canadian, Tx at 10:00 am on September 3, 2026, with meal to follow for the family. In Lieu of Flowers, donations can be made in her memory of to Hemphill County Hospice.

Her last thoughts were of her husband and her boys, and she lovingly referenced to Art an old country song by Tex Ritter….
