Obituary

Bill Maxey, of Amarillo, TX passed away on August 4, 2024. Graveside Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2024 at Syracuse Cemetery in Syracuse, KS.

Bill was born on Syracuse, Kansas to James and Betty Maxey. He was the youngest of four brothers, Wayne, Jim Don and John; 3 sisters Mavis, JoAnn and Betty who all preceded him in death.

After graduating from S.H.S. in 1955, he began his career as a barber in Pueblo, CO. The mountains were calling and he made a move to Gunnison, CO where many long friendships were made over haircuts. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Gunnison for 56 years. He loved to fish, hunt, woodworking and mow on his John Deere.

Life re-routed family and career back to Syracuse where he managed Love's Country Store # 3. The Dog House Restaurant was built and operated by Bill and Joyce his wife. High School sweethearts, married for 68 years, she was the love of his life and also preceded him in death.

Surviving family include children, Patricia Rhyne and husband Dennis, sons, Timothy Maxey and wife Marsha and Andy Maxey and wife Angela; 9 grandchildren, Katelyn Rankin, Hallie Jones, Jim Brown, Mickaela Perez, Mabon Acord, Malcomb Maxey, Tyler Maxey, Krista Betenes, Kymberlie Rodriquez; 17 ½ great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
