Obituary

Brenda Gail Wilson, BG, passed away peacefully at her home Monday May 19th, 2025 at the age of 75. Born November 9th 1949 in Garden City KS to John Carl "Jake" and Geneva "Irene" Strickland Wilson. Raised in Dodge City KS until the 9th grade, her family then moved to Amarillo where she graduated from Caprock High School in 1968.

Around the age of 4, Brenda with her hands on her hips said "I can do it myself!" and that is exactly what she did. While in high school she got her first job as a Soda Jerk at the D&S Pharmacy, and following graduation she worked at Levi Strauss. In 1972 she enlisted in the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft Hood as an X-Ray technician, then some time as a WAC counselor, before returning to Amarillo to finish her enlistment as an Army Recruiter until her Honorable discharge in 1975.

She worked at Bell Helicopter before starting her lifelong career with the United States Postal Service in 1977. Soon after, she bought her forever home, spending her life filling it with things she loved and making it her own. She cherished her time feeding the wild birds and squirrels that graced her yard, creating a sanctuary for them and over the years she shared her home with beloved dogs Dane Venus, schnauzer Chivas Regal the 33rd, and her poodles Casey and Holly. Brenda had many collections including various beautiful dolphins, Hallmark Christmas ornaments, Legos, all things related to the sea, Ansel Adams art, and memorabilia for her team, the Dallas Cowboys! Despite the love for her home Brenda's adventurous spirit took her on many trips over the years with different circles of friends, with a special place in her heart for Red River, NM.

While Brenda lived life on her own terms, she also worked hard to make sure her family was always taken care of however possible. Brenda loved her nephews and nieces like they were her own and enjoyed spending time with them any chance she was able. More often than not was right in the middle of it all being a big kid herself! She was a great cook, which led to being the host for all kinds of celebrations. From simple get togethers, grilling on the patio enjoying each other's company, to a wedding, tons of birthdays, showers and too many holiday meals to count with Christmas being her favorite. Brenda's passing will be felt each time the calendar marks any of these days, not in grief but reverence and thankfulness for the days spent together.

She is survived by her brother, Randy Wilson and wife Diane of Dodge City, KS; sister, Rhonda K. Wilson of Amarillo; nieces and nephews, John C. Wilson III and wife Deb, Michelle Wilson Peek, Dawn Gunn, Justin Wilson and wife Sara, Max Gunn and fiancé Samantha Bretado; great nephews, Johnny Kime, Dane and Alec Wilson, Josten and Jayden Peek, Jerika McEwan, Tommy Lee Wilson and many great great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many loved cousins and friends.

Brenda was preceded in death by her niece, Heather Genean Treadway, both her parents, her nephew, Jeremy Shawn Wilson, her older brother, John C. Wilson, II. and her best friend, Gayle Pritchard.

The family would like to thank Chelly and Mike Helms, Sandra Farrington, and Ray Steadman for their help getting her home and once home, Alice Bretado and an extra special thank you to her caregiver and new friend Priscilla Nunez, we couldn't have made her wish come true without you.
