Carol Disney Hulsey passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, at the age of 90.
Born August 16, 1935, in Borger, Texas, Carol was the daughter of Carl and Ione Disney. She
grew up on the renowned Four Sixes Ranch and graduated from Borger High School as a proud
Borger Bulldog and Borgerette.
Carol later made her home in Amarillo with Dale "Shrimp" Hulsey. Their marriage was rooted in
family, shared laughter, and a steady exchange of witty remarks. They traveled together to
bluegrass festivals and worked crossword puzzles side by side. Dale preceded Carol in death in
2018.
A gifted soprano, Carol believed her voice was a blessing from God meant to be shared. Fitting
to her name, Carol had a song for nearly every word, and she made sure you knew it, too.
She sang in the choir at every church she attended and was a member of the Amarillo Civic
Choir. She also served as secretary and organist at North Amarillo Christian Church. She later
attended Wesley United Methodist Church and Covenant of Joy Church, and at Temple Baptist
Church she taught Sunday School. Carol was also a longtime member of Church Women United,
serving as President.
Carol was incredibly proud of her family and rarely missed her children's and grandchildren's
milestones. She wanted her family to experience the world, and she often made that happen by
inviting them to plays, operas, and the symphony.
She had a personality that filled every room she entered. Her laughter was unmistakable and
contagious. And though her home was modest, it was often full of children, grandchildren, and
lively conversation. She loved telling stories about her life and historical events, and if she didn't
know the real story, she wasn't afraid to make one up. She also loved watching football no matter
who was playing and was once an avid follower of professional basketball.
Carol was also an incredible friend who truly didn't know a stranger. She formed deep
connections wherever she went, and her friendship with Carol Biddy was especially meaningful
to her.
Most importantly, her faith was the foundation of her life. She trusted the Lord, walked humbly
with Him, and lived out her beliefs through love. She was a light to those around her — steadfast
and compassionate. Her life reflected the message of 1 Corinthians 13 (her favorite verse), not
love in word alone, but love in action.
The legacy she leaves behind is a living inheritance of faith and love. She believed her greatest
treasures were her children and grandchildren, because they were hers to love, and that love
continues to shape our family today.
She is survived by her daughter, Von Dell Knorpp of Grand Junction, Colorado; her sons, Bryan
Hulsey and Carl Hulsey and wife Lisa, all of Amarillo; grandchildren Valerie Simonoff and
husband Michael, and their children Michael III and Keisha; Clinton Knorpp and wife Ruth
Swift; Katie Barnes and husband Steven; Hilary Hulsey and wife Shawna Koots; and her great-grandson,
Silas Knorpp.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale Hulsey; her siblings Gilbert Hays,
Bobby Disney, Jay Disney, Bonnie Runyon, and Sammy Disney; and her granddaughter, Kara
Knorpp.
