Chella Wynette Pope, 81, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Wynette will be remembered for her boundless love for her family, her kind and gentle spirit, and her Christian faith.

She was born in Perryton, TX, on November 2, 1944, to her parents A.B. Morris and Ruby Lee Montgomery. She graduated from Stratford High School in 1963. She then moved to Amarillo to attend hair design school and became a beautician. She met and soon fell in love with Richard "Dick" Pope. They were soon married in her father's home in Sherman County in 1967. With the support of family and friends, they navigated through Dick drafting into service, and then a daughter, Gina, was born while he was still overseas. Wynette shared a love for music and the mountains with Dick and especially treasured their time living in Colorado Springs, where they were stationed after Dick returned home. She loved her children and, together with Dick, also opened their home to care for foster children when their girls were young. Throughout their live, she was involved in their school and outside activities. She served in several ministries, including joining in singing songs while riding on the "JOY" bus as Dick drove to gather children
to bring them to church.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving daughter, Gina Michelle Pope Clifton. Though their absence was deeply felt, their memories were cherished and kept alive in Wynette's heart. Her life is being celebrated by her husband and dear friend, Richard "Dick" Pope of the home; her son-in-law, Chris Clifton and grandson, Hunter Clifton and his wife, Danielle, all of Orlando, Florida; her daughters, Amy Melissa Pope Taylor and husband Mark and Abbey Ruth Pope, all of Amarillo: her granddaughter, Annah McKay of Montgomery, Texas and her sister Natacha and husband, Ernie Dyess, and nephews, Steve Dyess and Wayne Dyess.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the many caregivers who gave special attention to Wynette.
