Obituary

Cheryl Lynn Cordeniz, 62, of Canyon, Texas passed away August 19, 2024 in her home surrounded by her loved ones after a lengthy battle with breast and later bone cancer. She is preceded in death by her father, Charles R. Kidd of Spearfish, South Dakota, her mother, Sylvia Stillwell of Clovis, New Mexico, her brother, Rick Kidd of Clovis, New Mexico, and mother and father in law, Joe M. and Mayme Cordeniz of Tulare, California.

She is survived by her bonus mom, Sharon Kudlock of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, her sister Carol (Tim) Garza of Clovis, New Mexico, her amazing husband of 15 years Gene Cordeniz of Canyon, Texas, daughter Sylvia (Royce) Martin of Canyon, Texas, daughter Shawna (Randy) Vela of Canyon, Texas, and son Gene Joseph Cordeniz of Colorado Springs, Colorado, her beloved grandchildren Brayden Perales "favorite first grandson" (Jayla Mendoza) of Amarillo, Texas, Seneca Perales "favorite first granddaughter" of Canyon, Texas, Rheyana Tindell "favorite second granddaughter/cheerleader" of Canyon, Texas, Dylan Underwood "favorite second grandson/singer" of Plainview, Texas, and Jace Vela "favorite baby" of Canyon, Texas, Peytin Vela "favorite bonus granddaughter" of Clovis, New Mexico and Blake Vela "favorite medicine man" of Clovis, New Mexico. She is also survived by many precious nieces and nephews and many "adopted" children and grandchildren she acquired throughout her life.

Cheryl was born August 28, 1961 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, but spent a great deal of both her young and adult life living in many different places to include Germany, England, and Saudi Arabia. This sparked a love for travel and adventure that stayed with her all the way until her last days of life here on Earth.

Cheryl's early occupations over the years included a variety of clerical work, cosmetologist, and Realtor. However, over the last seventeen years she found her many skills were best suited acting as CFO of the business and wallet her and Gene shared, owner/operator of Nana's daycare, Uber/Uber Eats driver to all of her kids and grandkids, copilot and traffic law enforcement from the back seat of any vehicle, as well as lead FBI investigator of the family, the preferred party planner and interior designer, executive chef (incredible hibachi skills) and facilitator of all pranks and laughs. Her family would describe her diverse role and versatile occupation best as Commander in Chief.

Her hobbies and passions included retail therapy, cheering for whatever NFL football team she was a die-hard fan of that year, taking cruises with friends, packing and moving into a new home shortly after the moving boxes were disassembled and stored from the current home, car trading and most importantly cheering for and supporting her grandchildren in their many extracurricular activities.

Cheryl was a bright, kind hearted, and fun-loving presence everywhere she went. She loved and protected her family fiercely and with her whole heart. She was a pillar of strength and the glue that held her family together.

Cheryl's celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 2pm at Arena of Life Church in Amarillo, Texas. The family would like to request that you attend in colors as bright and bold as Cheryl's personality, as dark and sad wasn't really her style.
