It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Daniel Lee Ekstrand, known to many as Danny, who left us Peacefully on October 27, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on September 6, 1948, Danny grew up in Borger, Texas, where he made countless memories and lifelong friends.
Danny was the beloved husband of Gretchen Ekstrand and a proud father to Dana Ekstrand and her husband Alfredo Morales and son Martin Ekstrand. He was also a cherished grandfather to Nathan Morales and a supportive brother to Kandy Hanna and her husband, Bryan Hanna.
A talented drummer, Danny was part of the well-loved Doc Boyer and Smokey Valley Boys Band, bringing rock & roll and Western swing to life with his infectious energy. He had an adventurous spirit that shone through both in his music and his passion for racing dirt bikes with his son, Martin – memories they created together will be treasured forever.
Danny's humor, talent, and love for life touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. While we grapple with the loss of such a vibrant soul, we take comfort in his lasting rhythm that will never fade.
