David was born on June 7, 1949 in Albuquerque, NM, to David Sr. and Wanda Smith. He was raised in Albuquerque, where he graduated high school before settling in Tucumcari, NM at the age of 20. He worked as a mechanic at the Ford dealership in Tucumcari for over 30 years as well as owning and operating A&D Auto Care for several years. In January of 1971, David married Andria Wood in Tucumcari and together they made many wonderful memories. He had many friends in Tucumcari and was known to always lend a hand to someone in need. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing at Ute Lake with his family every chance he could get. Above all, he loved his family and loved being "Pappy" to his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchild.

David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Andria Smith of Tucumcari, NM; daughter, Lesley Arguello and husband Rick of Tucumcari, NM; 3 sons, David J. Smith of Las Lunas, NM, Jared Smith and wife Trisha of Dalhart, TX and Adam Smith of Tucumcari, NM; 2 sisters, Patricia Evans and husband Tommy of Tucumcari, NM and Sheila Thoreson of Lubbock, TX; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David Sr. and Wanda Smith; parents-in-law, Horace and Helen Wood; brother, Gary Smith; sisters, Alice King, and Joyce Alvis and daughter-in-law, Tina Smith.
