Debra "Deb" Dallas Plackitt, 68, of Amarillo, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2026. She was born on November 16, 1957 in Amarillo, Texas to Peter August and Patricia (Culp) Dallas.
Debra graduated from Tascosa High School and went on to further her education at Victor Valley College and Baulder Fashion School. She met Tom online back in 2000 back when Deb worked for the San Bernadino Sheriff's Department as a 911 dispatcher. Tom remembers the first time they were to meet; she gave him her home address. He preceded to scold her for giving her home address to someone online and that she should have known better being in law enforcement. Deb and Tom were married on January 8, 2004 in Las Vegas, Nevada. No Elvis didn't perform the ceremony; however, they did get married on his birthday and in the church from his movie Viva Las Vegas.
She retired from San Bernadino Sheriff's Office as a 911 supervisor after 20 plus years. Deb then got bored and came out of retirement and worked for Home Depot for four years before retiring again. She then came out of retirement again after being bored and joined the team at Amarillo National Bank as a collector and you guessed it retired for a third time! To avoid boredom again she started volunteering at her favorite charity The Ronald McDonald House of Amarillo. It wasn't long before they hired her to work one weekend a month and continue to volunteer as well.
She loved her family more than anything else. During the last year she travelled to Canada to see their grandson graduate high school. Travelled to Ireland, Northern Ireland, Athens Greece, Rome Italy and Munich Germany with her family. Then Deb and Tom travelled to Vienna Austria and Zurich Switzerland. Anyone that she was in contact with benefitted from her caring devotion to all. Deb will be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Patricia Culp Dallas and Peter August Dallas.
Deb is survived by her husband, Thomas Plackitt; a son, Robert Lee Swift and wife Claire and four amazing grandchildren, Margery Swift, Patricia Swift, Gloria Swift and Jordan Plackitt.
In Lieu of flowers, at the family's request please make donations to The Ronald McDonald House of Amarillo or your favorite charity .
