It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Debra Harkins, who left us on January 29, 2026, at the age of 58. Born on August 3, 1967, in Boise City, OK, Debra was the daughter of Richard Scheller, Sr. and Rita Williams Scheller. She graduated from high school in 1985 and soon after, she embarked on a beautiful journey of love when she married Jody Harkins on March 14, 1986. Jody and Debra were married just 45 days shy of 40 years and were inseparable for most of that time.
Debra had a passion for learning, attending West Texas A&M. However, her creativity led her to cosmetology where she flourished. Debra was a skilled stylist and loved helping her clients with that gift. However, her true calling was being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She poured love and endless humor into her family. Debra's dry humor and quick-witted comebacks were legendary and often emulated by her nieces and nephews, sealing her status as the "funniest aunt".
Debra was also an avid animal lover and dedicated pet rescuer, always looking to lend a helping hand to furry friends in need. One of her and Jody's passions was riding motorcycles to their favorite spots in Colorado. A great sister and an amazing family historian, she had a knack for connecting the dots of their genealogy, weaving together the family's rich tapestry of stories. With her quick wit and great sense of humor, she easily lightened the hearts of everyone around her.
Debra's soft and gentle nature was always present, though she wasn't afraid to show her fierce and sassy side but only when necessary. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jody Harkins of Amarillo; mother, Rita Scheller of Boise City, OK; 2 sons, Justin Harkins of Amarillo and Stetson Harkins of College Station, TX; 2 brothers, Richard Scheller, Jr. and wife Stephanie of Boise City, OK and Kevin Scheller and wife Danielle Jean of Logan, West Virginia; 2 grandchildren, Brodee Harkins of Amarillo and Rhealee Harkins of College Station as well as several nieces, nephews and friends left to cherish her memory.
Debra was preceded in death by her father, Richard Scheller, Sr.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested everyone consider donating to Gracie's Project, one of Debra's favorite organizations.
