It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dixie Rae Thurmond, who left us on December 14, 2025, at the age of 49. Born on March 2, 1976, in Illinois, Dixie touched the lives of many with her vibrant spirit, infectious laughter, and unwavering determination.
Most recently she worked at the DWC Thrift store where she got along well with coworkers and customers. She enjoyed helping others at work and elsewhere. She was said to be a "good story teller" and laughed right along with the crowd.
But it was her recent journey that truly defined her legacy. In October 2025, she graduated from the Downtown Women's Center Rehab Program, celebrating three years of hard-earned sobriety. Dixie took pride in her achievements and the new friendships she formed along the way, alongside the steadfast support of her family and old friends.
Dixie will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and the love she shared with everyone around her. She had a knack for finding joy in the little things and always made an effort to lift others up. Her legacy will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known her.
She is survived by her son, Dalton S. Thurmond; sister, Karly Rose Thurmond; father, Karl A. Thurmond; granddaughter, Briela Dahlia Ramirez; aunt, Dixie J. Hill and uncles, Gary Thurmond and Phillip Thurmond.
Dixie was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara McCuistion.
