Donald Wayne Combs 82, Passed away March 7,2025 in Amarillo, Texas.
Born July 29, 1942, to Mildred and H.U. Combs in Pryor, Oklahoma.
His father worked in the oilfields, so the family moved often. Don attended so many schools that he never finished a grade on one place until the 6th grade in Riverton, WY. They moved back to Pryor, OK. Where Don started the 7th grade and graduated from Pryor High School in 1960.
After graduation, he went to work at John Deere Chemical and attended Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore, OK. In 1964, he entered the Air Force and trained at Lackland AFB, TX. And Keesler AFB, MS. HE was stationed at Amarillo AFB and at Galena, Alaska. After discharge from the Air Force, he attended Amarillo College and worked at Montgomery Ward. Then he worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone, AT&T, and Lucent, and retired from the City of Amarillo in 2002.
He married the love of his life, Linda Combs, on July 3, 1965, and they enjoyed many years of traveling after retirement. Don loved to fish, and they spent many vacations trying to "catch the big one". Don always wanted to return to Alaska, so one of their first retirement trips was a cruise and land trip there. It was a trip of a lifetime for both of them.
Don is survived by his wife; One son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Megan Combs, of Madisonville, LA; one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Scott Hayward, of Amarillo, TX; and four grandchildren, Casey and Allison Hayward of Amarillo, TX and Henley and Harper Combs of Madisonville, LA; and one brother and sister-in-law, David and Rhonda Combs, of Inola, OK.
