Donald "Drew" Camp, born on November 29, 1958, in Pampa, Texas, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy as a talented musician and a loving brother. Raised in Amarillo, he graduated from Tascosa High School in 1977 and went on to live a rich life filled with music, adventure, and warm companionship.
From opening for country legends like George Jones in the 1980's to touring Alaska in '81, Drew's love for music shaped his life's journey. He played bass guitar with the renowned Dana and Merle Haggard in what was hailed as the hottest opening band at Lake Shasta in California during that vibrant musical decade. Notably, he shared the stage with Merle at the memorable "The Roar of '84," a night that etched itself into the memories of all who attended.
Drew will be remembered fondly not just for his musical talents but also for his warm heart. His loyal kitty companion, Googi, was by his side for many years, bringing joy and comfort until the very end.
He is survived by 2 brothers, John Mark Camp and wife Lisa of Dallas and Blair Camp and wife Kara of Amarillo; nieces and nephew, Jennifer Michelle Bartel, Blakeley Jean Camp, Casey Blair Camp and Jenna Kate Camp, who will carry forward Drew's musical spirit and cherished memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Vernon Camp in 2017, mother, Barbara Jean Camp in 1989 and nephew, John Payton Camp in 2023.
