Edith McCray was born on April 25, 1936, in Stuttgart, Germany, and passed away on June 29, 2026 in Amarillo, Texas. Edith was the oldest of four sisters. As a child, Edith remembered hiding in the bomb shelters during World War II. She married a United States serviceman and moved to the United States in 1956. She became a United States citizen in 1963.
Edith was the mother of four children: Charles O'Neal, Kelly O'Neal, Mike O'Neal, and Thomas O'Neal. During her lifetime, she worked several jobs; her favorite was helping care for children. She also provided ironing services for many longtime customers, many of which she considered to be her friends. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling, crafting, and playing games.
She is survived by her children, Charles O'Neal, Kelly O'Neal, Mike O'Neal, and Thomas O'Neal; her grandchildren, Annette Boucher, Kerri Oechsner, Alissa O’Neal, James O’Neal, Troy O’Neal, Brittney O’Neal, Bethany Lewis, Matthew O’Neal , Rivkah O’Neal, Noah Aronin, Eliana Aronin, Kekoa Aronin, Chyeanne Sosa; her bonus grandchildren, Kylee Wright and Caden Wright; her three sisters, Ruth Preiser, Renate Rooney, Ursula Kele; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
The O’Neal family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of The Ware at Park Central and the staff of the Jan Werner PACE program. Their care, compassion and guidance helped tremendously during this difficult time. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
