Obituary

Mrs. Felipa Ramirez de Zuniga passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 5, 2024, which was exactly seventy six years from the date of her birth. Born February 5, 1948 in Coralios Municipio Zapotlanejo Mexico, Felipa moved to Los Angeles, California in the 1970's. There she met her husband Efren Zuniga. Together they moved to Amarillo in 1984. It is here that she raised her children Felipe and Hector Maldonado, Veronica Maldonado Almejo, Luis Vasquez, Jacqueline Gauna, and Efren Zuniga, Jr.

Felipa was a part of the BSA family starting with High Plains Baptist Hospital, then St. Anthony's Hospital, then finally BSA Emergency Hospital where she retired as a housekeeper after twenty years. As well, Felipa worked at Caprock Home Health as a housekeeper for ten years.

When in her off-time, she enjoyed every opportunity to raise her grandchildren, JoeAngel Zuniga, Jasmine Zuniga, Jose Lopez, and Genesis Zuniga, who in turn loved calling her Mom and Nana. Generous with her time, and devout in her reciting the Rosary, she was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe church where she volunteered when the opportunity arose. When not with family, friends, or church, Felipa enjoyed learning about other cultures outside of her own by watching videos or reading informational articles.

It is with heavy hearts that we share this moment of our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, with everyone who knew and loved her greatly. Felipa will join her mother, Maria Refugio Hernandez, her father Lorenzo Ramirez, son Felipe Maldonado, sisters Mercedes Barragan, Guadalupe Valdibia, and brother Alejandro Ramirez in Heaven. The hearts that will remember the beauty of Felipa and all that she offered include her children Hector Maldonado, Veronica and Esequiel Almejo, Luis Vasquez, Jacqueline and Robert Gauna, Jr., and Efren Zuniga, Jr.; Grandchildren Araceli Gomez, Crystal Gomez, Selina Maldonado, JoeAngel Zuniga, Jasmine Zuniga, Jose Lopez, Genesis Zuniga, and Desteny Grimm, Great-grandchildren, Delilah Isis Morones, Joshua Jimenez, Damon Isaiah Serrato, Josiah Lopez, Jisselle Pinto, and Ezra Luis Gomez. Brothers Jose, Gabriel, and Lorenzo Ramirez, Sisters Catalina Camarena and Elvira Del Monte. As well as the hearts of many beloved sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

To honor Felipa's life, the family would like to invite friends and family to participate in her wake at 1312 SE 6th. Hours when friends and family will be welcomed include Wednesday, February 7th from 1 pm - 8 pm, and Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 8 am - 8 pm.
