Gary Gene Conner, age 79, of Amarillo, Texas passed away peacefully on February
22nd, 2026.
Gary was born on February 20th, 1947 in Haskell, Texas to Virgil and Grace Conner.
Gary grew up in Haskell where he graduated high school, receiving a football
scholarship to West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. He was an exceptional
athlete and played college football while earning a bachelor's degree in Biology. After
college, Gary began his career as a science teacher and football coach. Later, he
transitioned into the oil and gas industry where he had a distinguished career. As a
second vocation, Gary developed a business as a hunting outfitter. His true passions in
life were reading, traveling, studying wildlife, hunting and fishing, and enjoying mother
nature with family and friends.
Gary is survived by his wife Jenny; his children Summar Ridgway (Shannon), Jasson
Conner, Ian Price, and Barry Price (Kathy); eight grandchildren; his sisters Brenda
Autry, Sybil Blackwell, and Jeannie Forehand (Chet).
At Gary's request a simple private family memorial service will be held.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at the Gardens of Amarillo and
Inhabit Hospice.
