Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rev. Israel P. Sosa, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, who left this world on August 6, 2025. Born on July 29, 1953, in Monterrey, N.L. Mexico, Israel was the son of Marcelino and Guadalupe Sosa. He married his lifelong partner, Elisa Loya, on August 18, 1979, in Edinburg, Texas, and together they created a legacy of faith, love, and kindness.

Israel spent many years ministering in Nuevo Leon before moving to Abilene, where he continued his calling. Known for his powerful preaching, he shared the Word of God in Munday for three years and later served at Templo de Alabanza and Cristo la Roca in Amarillo, as well as in Lyford, TX. For many years, he served as a deacon and was always the first to lend a helping hand.

Outside of his ministry, Israel worked as the head of housekeeping at Tascosa Country Club, where he learned to read English—a skill that opened so many doors for him. He then went on to work for BPI and later the Amarillo Independent School District. An absolute jack of all trades, Israel could fix just about anything, always ready to help others with a smile.

But what truly defined Israel was his unwavering faith and his generous spirit. He and Elisa opened their home to those in need, fostering children for over 11 years and becoming a father figure to many. His impact on the lives of those around him was profound, and he will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife, Elisa Sosa; children, Maria Cruz Sosa Ocanas, Regina Rene Sosa and husband Gabriel Jurado and Sandra Olivia Sosa Jones and husband Mitchell Ray Jones, II; grandchildren, Rosalina Raquel Sosa Ocanas, Marcelino Joseph Sosa, Vicente Israel Sosa, Elijah Moises Jurado, Israel Mitchell Sosa, Mitchell Ray Jones, III, Olivia Mae Jones, Abraham O'Neal Jones; great grandchildren, Cameelah Danyale Hatchett, Christian D'Israel Hatchett, Calel Davine Hatchett and Yalina Raquel Hatchett and siblings, Artemio Perez Sosa and Jeremias Perez Sosa.
