James Edward Whatley, 69, of Amarillo passed away on July 29, 2024.
James was born on September 1, 1955 in Amarillo to James and Mary Whatley. He was raised in Amarillo, where he graduated from Amarillo High School In 1973. James and Donna married on October 22, 1976. James was an avid fisherman and a race enthusiast, specifically drag racing. He enjoyed baseball and loved watching the Little League World Series.
James worked as an aircraft mechanic in Amarillo for over 30 years. He was employed with Tradewind Turbines, O'Hara Flying Services and Palo Duro Aircraft Service for many years. He began his career as a helper and apprentice. He earned his achieved his I A license in 1984. He made many friends who will miss him greatly.
James is survived by his wife, Donna Whatley of Amarillo; son, James Whatley, Jr. and wife Cassie of San Antonio; 3 sisters, Kay Waters of Amarillo, Diane Railsback of Tulsa, OK and Mary Knepp of Greer, SC and 2 granddaughters, Caitlyn and Abigail.
