It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry Wayne Jones on January 21, at the age of 73. Jerry had a unique ability to make his friends feel like a part of his family and he will be missed by all of those whose lives he touched.

He moved to Amarillo Texas shortly thereafter to begin his journey as a family man. He held Vega Texas and Oldham County in his heart his entire life and never forgot his roots. He held the position of President of the Oldham County Chamber of Commerce at one point and was the official county coordinator of the Hands Across America movement in 1986. His love for classic cars and music reflected his everyday life. He was employed as a museum curator at Russell's Travel Center in Glenrio New Mexico where he welcomed all traveler's with a smile and let them know all about the fascinating things found there.
Jerry is survived by his son, Shannon Jones (and wife Shaynah) of Amarillo, son, Kelly Jones of Arizona, his brother Lawrence Jones (and wife Carol) of Vega, nephew Rick Jones of Vega, niece Terri Jones Artho of Canyon Tx, and many loving friends that he considered his family too. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Clyde and Inez Jones of Vega, and his niece Rhonda Riggs of Amarillo.
A memorial gathering is scheduled for February 9th from 3-5pm at the Holiday Inn East in Amarillo Texas. This is a "come and go" event and will have refreshments for those who wish to attend.
