Jerry was born on February 18, 1954 in Amarillo to Jerre Lou Mitchell. He was raised in Amarillo, where he attended Palo Duro High School. He worked most of his life as a welder. Jerry was highly skilled with metal works and was known to be able to create just about anything.

He is survived by his daughter, Shawna Preciado and husband Randy of Amarillo; son, Jerry Mitchell of Colorado Springs; sister, Sabrina Loflin of Amarillo; 2 grandchildren, Chloe and Jonathan Preciado of Amarillo; uncle, Melvin Lowe of Amarillo; nieces, Samantha Morris and Candice Loflin and many great nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him dearly.
