Obituary

John Frank Langford, 89, of Amarillo passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023. Mausoleum Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Llano Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with Dale Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery.

John was born on August 23, 1934 in Wellington to Frank and Zelma Langford. He was raised in Wellington, where he graduated from High School in 1953. He then married Nell Underwood on June 14, 1953 in Childress. She preceded him in death on September 5, 2017. John attended Draughn's Business School while working at the Amarillo Post Office for a couple years. He then went to work for the Texas Department of Transportation, where he worked for over 35 years, retiring in the 1990's.
John served on the Board of the 1st Church of Christ Scientists for many years as well as serving as President of the Lake Tanglewood Corporation for 8 years, serving in the Lake Tanglewood Lion's Club and was the Mayor of lake Tanglewood for 8 years. Everyone who knew John loved him. He was known to be a hard worker and cherished being "Grandpa" to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with his family and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.

John is survived by his son, Steve Langford and wife Jeanne of Hereford; daughter, Liz Walker of Amarillo; 2 sisters, Geraldine Haggard and Peggy Stobart, both of Plano; 3 grandsons, Ryan Walker and wife Melissa of Dalhart, Josh Langford and wife Adrian of Perryton and Thomas Langford and James Emery of Hazelgreen, AL; granddaughter, Kristina Cross of Amarillo; 5 great grandchildren, John Harold Walker, Lucy Walker, Kady Langford, Emma Langford and Akira Cross and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Langford and Zelma Hudson; wife, Nell Langford and his brother, Charles Ray Langford.

The family wishes to thank all of John's nurses and High Plains Senior Hospice and would like to express a sincere thank you to his special nurses, Cindy House and Robbie Osborne-Nelson for their invaluable care.
