Johnny was born on February 27, 1952 in Amarillo to Clyde and Clara Vick. He moved to Dimmitt as a child, graduating from Dimmitt High School in 1970. He worked as an electrician at Dimmitt Electric, working alongside his father. On May 29, 1976, he married Janie Sheffy. Together, they owned and operated The Corner Place in Dimmitt, before moving to Amarillo in 2012, where they owned and operated Lonestar Liquor Store for many years.

Johnny was a devoted musician, bringing his family along to his many gigs. Among his favorite things were John Lennon, the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Mavericks, the Texas Rangers and drinking beer. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle to his family.

He is survived by his wife, Janie Vick; 2 daughters, Jennifer Vick and spouse Matt Sandoval and Jade Vick; sister, Rita Vick; niece, Jamie McClain and 3 grandsons, Jackson Adams, Jefferson Adams and Aiden Portwood.
