On May 6, 1989 a little baby boy was born to Shannon Shana Hughes-Jackson and Ronny Labaron Towles in Pampa, Texas. This amazing child who would carry the name of Labaron Lakeith Towels would change the lives of those he encountered and loved. During his younger years he would carry the nickname of La-La for years that his great grandparents Champ and Rose Hughes affectionately referred to him. You would often find this young child riding around in their pickup truck with them living his absolute best retired life along with them, often going on fishing trips and hunting trips. Absolutely wanting for nothing, they could be caught in the Braums parking lot getting ice cream just for him or in one of his favorite grocery stores. Love was never lacking in his life as he had access to it in all areas.
While being the first grandchild of Linda Kay Ford, he was sure to experience church and find that God would be his source and only source of strength in time of need, while attending Open Door COGIC, in Pampa, Texas. Upon hearing the word of God, he would be found singing in the youth choir, participating in several of the youth activities that the church would have under the direction of Superintendent Hubert Kelley. He was taught to pray and to read the word of God, accepting the Lord as his personal savior at a young age. As it is written in Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go,and when he is old he will not depart from it. As an adult he would still quote scriptures and sing songs to encourage himself and others. He never lost his faith.
He also became the playmate of his uncles LaMont and Jonathan Ford. He would be found riding horses and feeding pigs under their care. Often getting them in trouble for not doing what he wanted to do. His uncle Jonathan would take time to show him how to play basketball and football. Which caused him to be entered into the little league football and basketball teams during his younger years. As La-La grew in age so did his name and his interests changed and he found himself cooking more and learning how to create meals with the help of his mother. This would give him the title of master chief as he thought that he could out cook anyone due to this. Of course this was now because he became a support system for his mother in assisting with caring for his siblings: Paiton, Zhkaja, and Davion. The bond that he had with his siblings remains unbreakable as their unique relationships would cause each and everyone one them to feel as though he was their best friend.
He would later spend time with his father and grandmother in San Antonio, Texas where he would gain more life skills, as he desired to be a reflection of his father. He spoke of recipes and ideals that he gained from his grandmother and he loved their connection. He was never big in stature but his heart was huge, and anyone that encountered him understood that. He would become a mentor to his brother and many others. As time progressed, he grew into the man that we love and respected, as life will often do, bring us trials and tribulations, but he always found a way to fight through the obstacles that were presented to him. He was an individual that prided himself on not missing a birthday of those that he loved, and cared for. He definitely was not afraid to use the words I Love you, and though he will no longer dwell with us in body and we will not hear his voice anymore, his spirit remains alive. Yes, it breaks our hearts to let him go, but the fragrance of his memories will abide with us forever. Sleep now, Lakeith, lay down your sword and shield to study war no more. It's been a long day and we must say farewell, but we will see you again in the morning.
