It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Larry Mitchell, who departed this life on June 19, 2026, at the age of 78. Larry was born on October 20, 1947, and resided in Amarillo, Texas.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Roy and Ruby Lee Mitchell; Nancy Mitchell; his brother, Melvin Mitchell; and his sister-in-law, June, as well as Genevia Terry. He is survived by his son, Steve Mitchell, and a host extended family, including his nephew Marlon Mitchell and wife Tammy, niece Cheryl Lindsey, he is also survived by; Rita Renee Stanton, Jamie Michelle McLain, Sheila Bahr, Brian Terry and wife Sandy. Additionally, he leaves behind twelve grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.

Larry served in the United States Navy, demonstrating a commitment to his country. In later years, he worked as a corrections officer at the prison, where he dedicated himself to the safety and well-being of his community.

A Memorial Service to honor Larry Mitchell will be held on July 11, 2026, at 10:00 AM. At Shafer Mortuary Services Funeral Home 1502 S. Cleveland St. Amarillo, Texas 79102.

Larry will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him in return.
