Gayle was born on June 18, 1954 in Amarillo to Bill and Lawanda Robertson. She was raised in Groom, where she graduated from Groom High School in 1973, before settling in Plainview for over 20 yeaers. There, she was a member of the 1st Assembly of God Church. In 1996, she received her license as a drug dependency counselor, employed at Floyd, Hale and Lamb counties. She enjoyed watching movies in her free time and playing cards, especially spades.

Gayle is survived by her daughter, Katrina Spargur and husband J.J. of Groom; 2 sons, Timothy Thomas of Skellytown and Michael Thomas of Groom; sister, Nickey Evans and husband Donnie of Groom; brother, Marshall Robertson of Panhandle; 2 grandchildren, Branson Renfroe and wife Kylie of Plainview and Bo Dennis Autry of Lubbock and 2 great grandchildren, Ally and Lili.
