Obituary

Maria Garcia Nolan, 77, of Amarillo, went peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2024 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Maria was born to Isabel and Antonia Garcia on August 7, 1946 in Rio Grande, Texas. She graduated from Caprock High School and started attending West Texas State University, where she met the love of her life, Otis Patrick Nolan Jr. They wed on March 2, 1968 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Amarillo. She had her 1st son, John Otis Nolan on April 13, 1969 in Fort Riley, Kansas. They returned to Amarillo after Otis finished his Army career and welcomed their 2nd son, Jason Paul Nolan on September 25, 1974.

Maria enjoyed working at The Amarillo Airport in the maintenance department, until suffering an injury from a stream pipe bursting and burning her. She began helping many elderly women doing house work and chores, where she developed many lifelong friends along the way. Maria started working for Dunlap's Department Store in the maintenance department for the next 12 years, until they went out of business. She continued her career at Dillard's on the dock for another 10 years, until the love of her life got sick with cancer. Maria took a leave of absence to care for Otis until his passing. She then went back to work at Dillard's for another 12 years until she developed Multiple Myeloma, a form of blood cancer. Maria battled her enemy for the next 3 years never complaining of pain. She did this to protect her son, Jason who had become her caretaker and her sister, Jaine Aguilar until she took her last breathe. Maria enjoyed sewing, making dolls and making doll clothing. She especially cherished spending time and watching her 6 beloved grandkids, Megan Presser, Samantha Nolan, Sydney Nolan, Alexandra Nolan, Nicholas Nolan and Jacob Nolan grow up and become amazing men and woman.
