Melody Massey, born on June 28, 1948, in the heart of the Texas plains, rode her last trail on May 9, 2025. She was the proud daughter of Glenn Rufus Massey and Sally Jim Small Massey, growing up with a spirit as wild as the horses she loved to train.

A graduate of Samnorwood High School in 1967, Melody was truly one of a kind. With her love for barrel riding and all things equestrian, she embodied the true essence of a cowgirl—tough, passionate, and undeniably eccentric. What you saw was exactly what you got with Melody; she was refreshingly blunt and direct, always keeping it real. Her love for animals was not just a hobby—it was a way of life.

Melody leaves behind her children, Jill Jernigan and spouse Tonya Pyles of Shamrock and Jaimie Parker Jernigan of Dayton, TX; grandchildren, James Andrew Jernigan and wife Laramie, Taylor Crace and husband Coy of Gutherie, TX, great grandchildren, Payce Wyatt Crace of Gutherie, TX, Colton James Jernigan of Shamrock, McCauley Pace Jernigan of Shamrock and Tullie Teal Crace of Gutherie, TX; nephew, Jacob Skelton of Clovis; niece, Evanann Skelton of Dallas and close friends, Margaret Glasscock of Happy, TX and Shannon Timberlake of Canyon, TX who will carry on her legacy of authenticity and love for critters.

She was preceded in death by her father, Glenn Rufus Massey; mother, Sally Jim Small Massey and brother, Bart Skelton.
