It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and Pop, Merle Keith Voigt, on August 18, 2025. Merle was born on March 1, 1950, in Iowa Falls, IA. He spent his formative years in Eagle Grove, IA, where he graduated high school in 1968. He continued his education, after a year at the local junior college, at Iowa State University in Ames, IA, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Agriculture in 1972.
Merle married his high school sweetheart, Valinda Kae Ryan, on November 28, 1970, in Eagle Grove, IA. Together they built a family from trust and devotion to one another that spanned 60 years. Merle's work was in management and human resources and he was an HR director in the corporate setting for several companies which took the family all over the country from the midwest to Texas, to the East Coast, the Rockies, the south, and finally back to Texas. Merle took the family on many adventures through these moves for his career.
Merle fell in love with Texas and the Texas Panhandle in the 80's when he moved the family to Canyon, TX. He believed in the spirit of right and wrong and was a true Texan at heart. He loved playing golf and skiing, especially in Angel Fire, NM. His love of cars was known to all that knew him. His love began with his '55 Chevy and ended with a '98 Corvette Convertible. There were many other cars in between, but his first and last were his favorites.
He is survived by his wife, Valinda Voigt of Amarillo, TX; his daughter, Heather Root and husband, Berry Root of Amarillo, TX; son, Mitchell Voigt of Fritch, TX; 2 sisters, Claudia Olson of Winterset, IA and Vicky Gilmore and husband Ken of Rogers, AR; and 2 grandchildren, Jackson Wyatt Root and Samuel James Root of Amarillo, TX.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Veloise "Dottie" Voigt and his brother, John Voigt.
