Obituary

Michael William Dewey, 75, of Amarillo passed away on June 20, 2024. The family will hold Celebration of Life Services at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, July 20,2024 at New Life Church.

Michael was born on May 29,1949 in Carrollton, Illinois to Darrell and Doris Dewey. He was mostly raised in Amarillo, Texas where he graduated from Palo Duro High School. He studied electronics at Amarillo College, then enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War in a special branch of the NSA.

Mike worked in many trades, including employment at the State Penitentiary, Asarco, Owens Corning, retail, and for the City of Amarillo. He and his father jointly owned & operated a camp-trailer-building business; Mike had a venture-business in a used car-turnover. In Mississippi, he was employed as a crane operator, helping to build a nuclear plant. Mike was a talented clock smith, and owned his own clock repair business, Clock Works until retirement around 2021. He met his wife, Karen Harvey in their 20's, however, it wasn't until 2016 that they reunited and married.

Michael, affectionately known as "Mike", or "Mike-ie", was a jolly fellow, thinker, star gazer and 'tease' who cared greatly for others (and dogs). He served as a mentor and friend to many in need. He was a masterful mechanic and NASCAR fan (a rat-car-racer in earlier years). Mike possessed a variety of skills which he used to improve his home and help build & repair many things for those he loved. In his free time, he enjoyed Sci-fi & Western films, restoring vehicles, traveling with friends and wife throughout the United States, fishing, hiking, exploring nature, & studying rocks and artifacts.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Harvey-Dewey of Amarillo; brother, David Dewey of Amarillo and two nephews, Devlyn Dewey and Aaron Tanglewood. On his mother's Sonneborn side, he is survived by his Aunts Virginia, Jane, Sue and Bonnie and several nieces, nephews, and cousins in Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
