It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Nancy Birkenfeld, who left us on September 21, 2025. Born on November 7, 1949, in Hobbs, New Mexico, Nancy spent most of her life making a difference in the lives of those around her.
Nancy moved to Amarillo from Denver in 1978, where she was known for her dedicated work as a supervisor in child support accounting for Denver social services. After marrying her loving husband, Sam Birkenfeld, in 1991, she ventured into entrepreneurship and owned Wings from 1991 to 1998. But when life threw her a curveball, Nancy embraced her role as a mother again at the age of 50 when she and Sam welcomed their 5-year-old niece into their home.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Sam, her children Darrin Kelly White and Paige Madison Walthall and husband John, and her cherished grandchildren: Sade Marshall (Darlin), Shay Killian Cettie (Shay Shay), and Payton. She will be remembered fondly by a large extended family of Birkenfelds who adored her. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Mary Arnold, and her brother Joe Arnold Jr.
Celebration of Life services to celebrate Nancy's remarkable life will be held on Saturday September 27,2025 at 3:00PM, with a gathering of family and friends at Shafer Mortuary Services Funeral Home. We invite all who knew and loved Nancy to join us in honoring her legacy and the joy she brought to our lives.
Nancy's spirit will live on in our memories, and her loving nature will continue to inspire us every day.
