Nelda Ruth McCollum-Bean, 77, of Amarillo passed away on June 17, 2024. Celebration of Life Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2024 at First Christian Church Robinson Chapel.
Nelda was born on November 12, 1946 in Anadarko, OK to James Artie and Quanah Inez McCollum. She moved to Amarillo as a child, where she graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1965. She then attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She worked as a 1st and 3rd grade teacher for many years in Lipscomb and Canadian. Nelda volunteered for St. Anthony's Hospice Impatient Unit as well as delivered Meals on Wheels for over 10 years.
In her free time, Nelda enjoyed sewing and was a talented quilter as well as singer. More than anything, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time and vacationing with them as often as possible.
She is survived by her husband, James Edward Bean of Amarillo; daughter, Rilla Inez Gonzales and husband Florence of Amarillo; son, Aaron Cameron Bean and wife Ramona of Amarillo; brother, James Edward McCollum and wife Katria of Bryan, TX; 3 grandchildren, Daniel James DeLeon and wife Tara of Alamagordo, NM, Brittany Kay Dubois of Amarillo and Bonnie Bean of Amarillo; 3 great grandchildren, Cayden Allen Foster, Anthony James DeLeon and Zoey Danielle DeLeon.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
