Rachel Charice Zapata, born on July 7, 1968, in Dumas, Texas, to Hector and Lupe Serna, left us on January 9, 2026. Rachel was a vibrant and loving soul who moved to Amarillo as a child and graduated from Caprock High School in 1986.
Anyone who knew Rachel knew about her passion for life. She had a love for crafting, art, and gardening, definitely boasting a green thumb! She was also known for her generous spirit and her knack for spoiling her beloved dogs-each of whom had their own special meals (because why not?). To her grandchildren, she was the ultimate Nani, showering them with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Rachel devoted her life to caring for her family and friends, always putting them first. Her infectious smile and warm heart left a lasting impact on everyone lucky enough to know her. Her laughter was contagious, her spirit wild and energetic, and her heart was big enough to embrace all.
Rachel was a devoted follower of the Lord, always shouting praises for Jesus and inspiring those around her with her unwavering faith. She had a unique gift for making people laugh, turning ordinary moments into unforgettable memories. Rachel's kindness and caring nature knew no bounds, and she touched the lives of so many in her community.
She is survived by her children, Alysia Alvarado and Jacob Hollinger, Christopher Zapata, Marqus Zapata and Hector Zapata and wife Justice, all of Amarillo; sister, Shirley Serna of Austin; brother, Hector Serna of Amarillo; grandchildren, Jasmine and Hector Zapata and her beloved dogs, Betsy, Carmela and Chiquita.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Pedro Alvarado.
