It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond Richard Abaraca, who departed this life on June 20, 2026, in Canyon, Texas, at the age of 76. Born on August 24, 1949, Raymond was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, known for his generous spirit and infectious laughter. 

Raymond is survived by his devoted spouse, Carla Abaraca; his daughter, Gia Sausse; his sister, Lorinda Calvaruso; and his brother, Bryan Abarca. He was a proud grandfather to Sylvie Juliette Sausse, Jordan Abarca Chestnut, and Logan Chestnut. He was preceded in death by his cherished children, Nica Danielle Abarca Chestnut and Lance Abarca, as well as his parents, Daniel and Lora Abarca. 

A Vietnam War veteran, Raymond proudly served in the United States Army, exemplifying the values of duty and dedication. After his military service, he found fulfillment in various roles, working at the stables in Palo Duro Canyon and in the hospitality industry, where he left a lasting impression on colleagues and patrons alike. 

Raymond was known for his vibrant personality, often seen enjoying gatherings and parties, sharing jokes, and spending time with his beloved horse, Sassy, and mule, Gilmore. He had a passion for traveling and relished it in the company of friends and family. 

Funeral services to honor Raymond’s life will be held on July 18th, 2026, at 10:00AM at Shafer Mortuary Services Funeral Home 1502 S. Cleveland St. Amarillo, TX 79102. Friends and family are invited to join in a celebration of Raymond’s life, where memories will be shared, and his legacy of kindness and laughter will be remembered. 

Raymond Richard Abaraca's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
