Obituary

Richard Darrell Dickens, 73, of Amarillo, died Friday, August 14, 2026 at the Amarillo Veterans Medical Center. he was born on Monday,, September, 8, 1952 in Amarillo. He attended Palo Duro High School. Richard was a proud veteran of the United States Army, and had worked as a flooring installer for more than 40 years. He married Vicki Lynn Bowling on Saturday, October 16, 1971 in the old, original First Baptist Church. Richard loved fishing , hunting, motorcycles, boating and camping in the mountains. He taught his grandsons, granddaughters, 2 great grandchildren and a nephew how to fish. Richard was a good guy, loved life and was always the life of the party. He loved his family and was always proud of his family. He was a hard worker  and never met a person that he didn't like. 

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, A.J. and Joann Dickens; a sister, Ruthann Boutwell; John "Spud" Dickens; and a grandson, Alllen Ray Williamson.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the love of his life, Vicki Lynn Dickens  of Amarillo; 2 daughters, Tiffanie Shirley (Jordan) of San Antonio, Tamara Williamson of Amarillo; 5 grandchildren, Sidonie Smith (fiance, Randle Harrelson), Erin Smith, (Kaleb Smith (girlfriend, Jade Germain), Sean Dickens (wife, Tia Dickens),  Richard Williamson (fiance, Marlissa Reyes; 3 great grandchildren, Liam Harrelson, Delanie Harrelson and Xaylinahs Reyes. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026  at 10:00 am at Carter Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 412 SW 2nd Avenue with Jan Mason officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to any veterans organization.
