Obituary

Ricky "Big Mountain" Moore, 66, of Amarillo, passed away on June 13, 2026. A celebration of
life will be held on Monday, June 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at Shafer Mortuary Funeral Home.
Ricky was born on July 16, 1959, in Amarillo, Texas, to Lester and Classy Moore. He attended
Sam Houston Junior High, where he was a vital member of the football team. He later attended
Tascosa High School and remained an avid football fan.
Ricky was a devoted family man and spent 29 years working as a carpenter at DI (Diversified
Interiors), where he earned the nickname "Big Mountain." He took great pride in his work and
was highly skilled in his trade. Being a carpenter meant a great deal to him, and he often took
pride in sharing the same trade as Jesus.
Ricky was a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan, but nothing compared to his love for Jimmy Buffett.
He was a huge fan who attended many of Jimmy Buffett's concerts over the years, truly
embracing the music, spirit, and carefree lifestyle that came with it. Those memories meant a
great deal to him and to those who shared them with him.
He also loved spending time fishing at Lake Meredith and relaxing at his lake house. Ricky
treasured his lifelong friendships with Monty Blandford, Mike Craddock, Bobby Andrews, Carey
Bybe.
Ricky was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Jane Moore, on July 3, 2011; his parents,
Lester and Classy Moore; his sister, Mary Janine Moore; his brothers, Jimmy D. Moore and Billy
Jack Jameson; and his niece, Kimberly Dawn Hance.
He is survived by his three children: Jason Roberts and wife Tara of Houston; Sunny Walker
and husband Colt of Amarillo; and Lucas Richardson and wife Tiana of Amarillo. He is also
survived by his sister, Cathy Burkhalter and husband Joe of Amarillo; five grandchildren: Haley
Roberts, Alana Roberts, Rowdy Walker, Harley Walker, and Gracie Richardson; one great-
granddaughter, Scarlett Walker; a very special nephew, Brandon Hance of Amarillo; and a host of friends who will miss him dearly.
