It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Dwayne Rachels, age 68, of Amarillo, Texas on June 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. His family is blessed to call him husband, dad, Papa, brother, friend, and neighbor. Robert lived a life marked by hard work and an unwavering love for his family.
Born on November 24, 1956, Robert grew up in Sunray, Texas. He spent most of his life in the trucking industry. Whether behind the wheel or supervising others, he found pride in a job well done.
Outside of work, Robert was a true craftsman with a creative gift of making old things new. He loved working with his hands—remodeling homes, building things, and tackling any project that came his way. He poured his heart into everything he touched, leaving behind more than just walls and wood, but places filled with warmth and love.
Earlier in life, Robert enjoyed driving and working on his fast cars and motorcycles. Later in life, when he wasn't hard at work in his yard or home, you would find him on the porch relaxing with his wife, Sharon and visiting with their neighbors. Robert and Sharon had a precious 11 years together filled with love and happiness.
A faithful Christian, Robert lived his life grounded in sharing kindness, guidance, and a quiet strength with everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his Father James Robert Rachels, his Mother Billie Faye Summers and Stepfather Curtis Dale Summers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon, and their blended family of six children, including his son, Scott and wife Holly Rachels of Wimberly, Texas and daughter Jennifer and husband Tandon Tipton of Canyon, and Sharon's four children, daughter Felicia Bellis and husband Josh Gerken of Knoxville, Tennessee, daughter Michal-ann and husband Cary Bell of Amarillo, Texas, son Jeremiah and wife Janet Marcum of Dallas, Texas, and son Seth Marcum of Amarillo, Texas. He also leaves behind several beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the light of his life, two dear sisters, Carmella Brewer and husband, Rodney and Donna Childers and husband Jerry and many loving nieces and nephews.
Robert will be remembered for his warm hugs, strong hands, humble heart, and the unconditional love he showed to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the lives he touched and the legacy of faith and love he leaves behind.
