Obituary

Tammy Lea Owens, a woman of fierce love and adventurous spirit, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 12, 2026, at the age of 60. She passed away in Borger, Texas, surrounded by the echoes of a life beautifully lived. While her family grieves her absence, they find peace knowing she was joyfully greeted at Heaven's gates by her son and her sister.

Born on October 2, 1965, in Borger to David Darrell Turner and Patricia Ann Huff, Tammy's childhood was shaped by a large, blended family. She was the eldest of six children—a role she took seriously, always striving to set a shining example for her siblings. Throughout her life, she was blessed with the love of three fathers: David Turner, Mike Morgan, and Danny McLain. It was Danny who made a profound impact on her early adulthood, teaching her the true meaning of unconditional love—a gift she would spend the rest of her life passing on to her own children. She also found a special light in her stepmother, Kim McLain, who brought laughter and joy to her life exactly when it was needed most.

As a student of Sanford-Fritch ISD, Tammy cultivated lifelong friendships that she carried in her heart for decades. Her journey into motherhood began with her daughter, Jaime Rachel, whom she often described as the one who first taught her how to love completely. Later, Tammy married Jesse Guy Ziegler, with whom she built a beautiful life and welcomed her son, Walter Joe. Walter Joe kept her on her toes and filled her days with pride for fourteen years of marriage.

In 1998, Tammy began her greatest adventure yet when she married James Max Owens on New Year's Eve. For 27 years, Tammy and Max "did life" together, traveling and seeking out new experiences that made Tammy's eyes light up whenever she spoke of them. This union brought her youngest son, Tommy Joe, her "proudest adventure" and a constant source of wonderful surprises.

Tammy's heart only grew larger as her family expanded. She loved her son-in-law, Jimmy, and daughter-in-law, Larrisa, as her own. However, her greatest title was "Grammy." To Trystan, Dakota, and Reiny, she was a constant source of affection and support. She never missed a chance to celebrate their growth, and a simple question about her grandbabies would make her face radiate with pride.

Tammy was a woman who would give the shirt off her back to a stranger and took every new challenge head-first. She loved deeply, lived boldly, and left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by Her parents, David Darrell Turner and Patricia Anne McLain; her sister, Michaela Renee Wyatt; and her beloved son, Walter Joe Ziegler.

Tammy is survived by Her loving husband, James Max Owens; her son, Tommy Joe Owens; daughter Jaime Rachel Franks and husband Jimmy; and daughter-in-law Larrisa Ziegler. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Trystan Taylor Franks (fiancé Alexus Schessler), Dakota Kyle Franks, and Reiny Layne Ziegler. She is also survived by her father Danny McLain and wife Kim; her sisters Sherry Adams and Suzie Richardson (Steve); her brothers Brad Morgan (Beverly) and Buck McLain (Lindsay); and a vast community of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
